Drug Addiction Treatment ordered by the Law Court

We often hear of criminals being arrested for various crimes and then being ordered by the court to spend time in a drug rehab along with their prison sentence.
All of us may or may not be accordant with such decisions, but at least we all agree it is true that drug addicts need a treatment program. Towards this end, the law is doing a good job in ordering rehab treatment for them.Drug addicts resort to crime for the simplest reason of the need for money. A drug addiction is an expensive habit and they may have to fund their habit through illegal means when their own resources run dry. Also, the social ridicule and rejection that they face push them more into the drug habit, which in turn pushes them more into the world of crime. This is a vicious chain that is difficult to break.
But by ordering rehab treatment for these criminals, the courts are ensuring that they will break this chain and lead a sober life that will not necessitate crime. It must be noted that most of these people may not have the resources and the means to go in for drug rehab themselves. But such orders bring the treatment closer to them.
Counseling done after these treatment programs also help these drug users to revert to a life of sobriety and the right kind of living. They also realize that crime is wrong in most cases.
Statistics reveal that about 70% of all drug abusers who are ordered rehab treatment programs do not revert to crime and lead healthy constructive lifestyles with ongoing treatment.
