Phone Counseling Can Reduce Alcohol Abuse

New research suggests that counseling by phone can help reduce alcohol consumption among problem drinkers. Many studies in the past have shown that just a few conversations with a doctor or counselor about alcohol abuse can help people to drink less. This is often referred to as brief interventions. However, we now know that these discussions don’t necessarily have to take place in person.

Addiction Affects Everyone

Whether they realize it or not, every single person in the United States is affected by drug abuse and alcoholism on some level. Of course, family, friends, and the addicts themselves have their lives changed by drug and alcohol abuse. Whether or not you personally know someone who suffers from an addiction problem, many of these issues negatively affect society as a whole. This is one reason why individuals should be encouraged to seek addiction treatment in a rehab center rather than be judged harshly for their behavior.
