While addictions to other substances can be dangerous and harmful, an drug addiction like this can seem, and is often, more dangerous and harmful than others. When someone starts taking this substance, they do not often realize the harm that it can have.

Many addicts begin drug abuse to ease anxiety or alleviate depression. People with anxiety problems find it much easier to relax after a beer, and many narcotics induce a feeling of euphoria that helps relieve depression.
